Thailand is located at the heart of the Indochinese Peninsula, bordered to the southeast by the Gulf of Thailand in the Pacific Ocean and to the southwest by the Andaman Sea in the Indian Ocean. Its advantageous geographical location endows it with abundant natural resources, including wind energy, solar energy, and biomass. As a key intersection point between the Maritime Silk Road of the Belt and Road Initiative and the ASEAN Economic Community, Thailand serves as an important link connecting the Chinese and ASEAN markets.

The “Belt and Road” initiative is a major globalizing strategy for China, and biomass energy is one of the 23 strategic emerging industries identified by the state. With the rapid advancement of biomass energy technologies in China, exchanges and cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road” have become both urgent and promising. By comparing and analyzing global biomass production data, we have selected four countries—Indonesia, Thailand, Poland, and India—from the “Belt and Road” region to explore their potential for cooperation with China in the field of biomass energy.

Thailand is located in the tropical region and has a forest coverage rate of 25%. Agriculture and animal husbandry are its key economic pillars. The country boasts abundant biomass resources—such as palm leaves, agricultural waste, straw, and wood-processing byproducts—which provide ample feedstock for biomass energy generation. According to statistics from Thailand’s Ministry of Energy, the country generates approximately 120 million tons of agricultural waste annually. After appropriate processing, this waste can be converted into biomass energy.

Mitr Phol is a Thai sugar company affiliated with the Two Sides Group and headquartered in Thailand. It is currently one of Asia’s largest suppliers of sugar and bioenergy. The Mitr Phol biomass power plant project in Thailand leverages China’s advanced renewable resource technologies to generate biomass energy, thereby enabling the efficient utilization of agricultural waste. The successful implementation of this project not only provides clean electricity to the local community but also serves as a concrete example of promoting green development under the Belt and Road Initiative. Blue Arrow has supplied a batch of DC power supply units for the biomass power plant project, contributing its part to the advancement of energy development.
